PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 16, 2022) – Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class Joshua Goodrich, right, and Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class John Olson use a forklift to transport a palette during an ammunition onload evolution in the hangar bay aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Sept. 16. Aviation Ordnancemen are responsible for the maintenance of guns, bombs, torpedoes, rockets, and missiles, and their duties include the stowing, issuing, and loading of munitions and small arms. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
