PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 16, 2022) – Sailors transport a palette during an ammunition onload evolution on the flight deck aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), Sept. 16. Aviation Ordnancemen operate and handle aviation ordnance equipment and are responsible for the stowage and loading of munitions and small arms. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of USS Makin Island and amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), is underway conducting integrated training operations with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in the U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
