U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Donald Hardiman, a plane captain with Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 122, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), performs preflight checks for Lt. Col. Aaron Trent, commanding officer of VMFA 122, while Trent prepares to take flight on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Arizona, Nov. 9, 2022. The squadron is departing MCAS Yuma to join the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) as the first full F-35B Lightning II squadron to deploy with a MEU. The 13th MEU’s deployment with a 10-jet F-35B Lightning II squadron in addition to the composite squadron comprised of MV-22B Ospreys, CH-53E Super Stallions, AH-1Z Vipers and UH-1Y Venoms gives the MEU commander unmatched operational flexibility. Trent is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. Hardiman is a native of Salmon, Idaho. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by CWO 2 Trent Randolph)
