U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Aaron Trent, commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 122, Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), exchanges information with his plane captain, Sgt. Donald Hardiman, during preflight checks on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Yuma, Arizona, Nov. 9, 2022. The squadron is departing MCAS Yuma to join the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) aboard amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) as the first full F-35B Lightning II squadron to deploy with a MEU. The F-35B Lightning II capabilities provide the Marine Air-Ground Task Force with operational flexibility, unmatched lethality and tactical air supremacy.
