YOKOSUKA, Japan (Nov. 15, 2022) Soldiers of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) pass along sandbags to construct a defensive observation post onboard Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) as part of Keen Sword Exercise 2023. Keen Sword is a joint-bilateral biennial training exercise involving U.S. Forces and the Japan Self-Defense Force designed to help promote peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region by strengthening the U.S.-Japan alliance and enhancing participants interoperability. For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
