Pfc. Emmie Otto (third in line) enters the gas chamber as part of a Confidence Training Event during Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 2022. The training helps to build confidence in the Soldier’s nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) equipment as well as in the individual. Otto is now entering her first full year of service with the Minnesota National Guard’s 851st Engineer Vertical Construction Company, 682nd Engineer Battalion. She is being featured as part of the Minnesota National Guard’s “Year in the Guard” series that will feature four service members at different stages in their military careers – Otto’s story will focus on her first year serving in the Minnesota National Guard.
