Lt. Cmdr. Jonathan Leo, operations officer of the Independence-class litorral combat ship USS Canberra (LCS 30), poses with the Independence-class LCS USS Kansas City (LCS 22) behind him in San Diego, Jan. 13, 2023, as Canberra prepares to participate in its Combat System Ship Qualification Trials. Leo also participated in the CSSQT of Kansas City during its pre-deployment qualification trials.

The CSSQT qualification process is a NAVSEA pre-deployment requirement to verify the crew’s ability to operate and maintain their combat systems in a safe and effective manner. It is considered a major milestone in validating the ship’s capability to defend itself, fight and win. (U.S. Navy photo by Neil Mabini)
