A U.S. Navy landing craft, air cushion from the amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD-20) prepares to support an amphibious assault exercise at Tokunoshima, Japan, March 3, 2023. The exercise was held as part of Iron Fist 23 to enable U.S. Marines, Japan Self-Defense Force personnel to assault a simulated contested beach landing sites. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
