Eric Jones and Airman 1st Class Jesse Harrelson, 6th Airlift Squadron loadmasters, perform a wet-wing defuel of a C-17 Globemaster during exercise White Stag on Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., Mar. 9, 2023. During a wet-wing defuel, the aircraft will land and keep all four engines running while the crew transfers fuel from the aircraft to either another aircraft or to a fuel truck. The purpose of a wet-wing defuel is to deliver fuel to users within a forward operating base who do not have established fuel storage capabilities.
