New York Army National Guard Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, on duty in the Horn of Africa to provide security for U.S. installations, mark St. Patrick’s Day by holding a special Catholic Mass at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti on March 17, 2023. The 69th Infantry has led the New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade each year since 1851 and attends Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral ahead of the parade. The service in Africa took place at the same time as the celebration in New York City, seen on the video screen.Since the bulk of the unit is deployed, they marked the day in Africa instead.
