Maj. Bridget Flannery, Buddy Aid program director, delivers the Professional Education Center’s Buddy Aid Train the Trainer course via mobile training team in Lansing, Michigan, on Nov. 17, 2022. In this course, Flannery certifies students to teach Buddy Aid, the National Guard’s first response to sexual assault. Flannery developed the concept of Buddy Aid during a deployment to Afghanistan with the South Dakota National Guard where, as an intelligence officer, she realized her unit was highly prepared to respond to traditional kinetic threats but had not predicted the number of Soldiers who would be affected by sexual violence overseas.
