A Warrior Skills: Skill Level 1 book and a tourniquet are on standby as a Soldier receives feedback from Maj. Bridget Flannery, Buddy Aid program director, after completing the practical exercise portion of the Buddy Aid Train the Trainer course on Nov. 17, 2022, in Lansing, Michigan. During the five-day course, students are certified to train Buddy Aid, the National Guard’s first response to the Department of Defense’s most likely threat – sexual assault. The tourniquet and warrior skills book are used as a metaphor for how service members should be, and can be, trained to respond to disclosures of sexual assault as confidently as they respond to wounds on the battlefield.
