A firefighter with Fire and Emergency Services uses a shovel to scrape coals out of the Drager Fire Training System fire chamber, preparing for the next training rotation aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, California, March 30. The Drager Phase 1 System allows firefighters to create fire using wood and a torch in an upper chamber, then control the fire and smoke behaviors using vents and doors. This affords the firefighters to experience full burn-overs and severely limited visibility, which are two of the most dangerous circimstances in real-life fire events. By using the Drager, they conduct this type of training in a safe and controlled environment.
