Members of the Beale Air Force Base Honor Guard perform a 21-gun salute during a memorial service for Col. Michael Fugett at the fuel cell hangar at the Nevada Air National Guard base, Reno, Nev. June 3, 2023. Col. Fugett completed multiple active-duty assignments that included OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM prior to joining the Nevada Air National Guard in 2012. Fugett became the Nevada Air National Guard’s first Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System instructor pilot after the wing became equipped for C-130 wildland firefighting missions. Fugett accumulated over 4,100 flying hours, including more than 800 hours in combat, and more than 80 retardant drops over wildfires across the western United States (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Staff Sgt.
