U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Officially nicknamed the “Silver Eagles,” VMFA-115 was organized on July 1, 1943, and has since flown widely within the Pacific theater, including World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and recently flew during Operation Iraqi Freedom. As part of the Marine Corps 2022 Aviation Plan, the squadron is on track to transition from the F/A-18 Hornet to the F-35B Lightning II platform by 2026.
