    U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Shannon Waller, commanding officer of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 115, addresses Marines during the squadron’s 80th anniversary celebration at Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan, June 28, 2023. Officially nicknamed the “Silver Eagles,” VMFA-115 was organized on July 1, 1943, and has since flown widely within the Pacific theater, including World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and recently flew during Operation Iraqi Freedom. As part of the Marine Corps 2022 Aviation Plan, the squadron is on track to transition from the F/A-18 Hornet to the F-35B Lightning II platform by 2026.
