U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Brock Vaughan, center, a Landing Support Chief, with Combat Logistics Battalion 8 (CLB-8), Combat Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, and a native of Winter Haven, Florida poses for a photo July 2, 2023, while underway the San Antonio-class amphibious transportation dock USS New York (LPD 21). Vaughan is acting as Company Gunnery Sgt. for CLB-8. He was recommended by 1st Sgt. Willie Tompkins, the company 1st Sgt. for Bravo Company in CLB-8, because of his professional dedication to maintaining good relationships with his landing support team. He encourages his junior Marines to take charge of executing embarkations and debarkations of UNITAS. His advice for junior Marines would be, “closed mouths don’t get fed” meaning to always speak up for yourself, and to make sure to ask questions. UNITAS is the world’s longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise that focuses on enhancing interoperability among multiple nations and joint forces during littoral and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and create new enduring relationships that promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility.
