U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Alexander Thomas, an infantry Marine with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, moves boxes of food during a replenishment at sea with the fleet replenishment oiler USNS Yukon (T-AO 202), aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6), in the Coral Sea, July 18, 2023. A RAS provides all service members aboard with food, fuel, supplies, and mail to sustain maritime operations between the USS America and the 31st MEU. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Expeditionary Strike Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
