Jay Mossage, right, observes as Marines use a jackhammer to place an anchor for an M-31 Marine Corps Expeditionary Arresting Gear System Dec. 2 at Tinian’s West Field during Exercise Forager Fury 2012. Each trailer requires more than 50 anchors to make ensure it does not move while landing F/A-18 Hornet aircraft at a rate of one every 3-5 minutes. After all the anchors have been set in place and tested at 3,500 pounds of pull, Mossage will certify that the arresting system is operational. The Marines are Expeditionary Airfield System Technicians with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, Marine Aircraft Group 12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. Mossage is an Expeditionary Airfield Service Unit Representative and M-31 site certifier with Naval Air Systems Command. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Justin M. Pack/released)
