U.S. Marine Corps Col. Dennis W. Sampson, the Commanding Officer of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (MEU(SOC)), compliments U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Xerxes Havis, an aviation ordnance airman apprentice with the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) after a physical training event on the last day of Corporals Course hosted aboard the ship, Atlantic Ocean, July 25, 2023. The 26th MEU(SOC) ran Corporals Course concurrently onboard all three ships of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) which also includes the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) and the Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50).
