Gold Star sister, Seely Smith (standing) jokes with Gold Star Mission volunteer Connie Robinson during the July 29 Chicago Fire Architectural Boat tour. Smith is the sister of Illinois Army National Guard Sgt. Gerrick Smith, who was killed in Afghanistan on July 29, 2009. While the anniversary of Gerrick's death is always difficult on the Smith family, Seely decided to spend it with other Gold Star Family members this year. The tour was organized by the Army's Survivor Outreach Services and the Illinois National Guard for the 34 Illinois National Guard Gold Star Families whose service members were killed since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Gold Star Mission, the USO, the Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores, Hanson Professional Services, Mission BBQ, and Chicago Fireboat Tours supported the tour.
