U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Robert Rogers applies different types of paint to Lance Cpl. Julie Johnson, both riflemen with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, during a “Cerrado” wilderness survival class given by Brazilian marines, Aug. 12, 2023, at the Base Expedicionária de Fuzileiros Navais in Formosa, Brazil, during the Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais’ (Brazilian Marine Corps’) annual Infantry Training Exercise Formosa. The Marines learned survival techniques specific to Brazil and that can apply anywhere in the world, such as building a fire with sticks, what plants are edible or not and also camouflage techniques. Johnson is from Geneva, Illinois, and Rogers is from Grant, Alabama.
