J.P. Richard, a retired artilleryman who served in the 1st Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, sits in a restaurant during the Society of the 1st Inf. Div. reunion in New Orleans, Louisiana, Aug. 12, 2023.

“When I got back from Vietnam I was assigned to the gunnery department,” said Richard. “Our division conducted shoots and we taught FADAC (Field Artillery Digital Automatic Computer) even though we didn’t use FADAC in Vietnam because it was new and no one was trained on it.”
