Sgt. 1st Class Cody Beadle (left), from Niles, Michigan, and Spc. Dustin Feldner, from Springdale, Washington, Soldiers with 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), XVIII Airborne Corps competing in the U.S. Army Forces Command Best Squad Competition begin the mystery event, which was a Call for Fire, Aug. 17, 2023, on Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Call for Fire is when Soldiers request support through a radio from field artillery units, or a Fire Direction Center, to suppress an enemy with cannon fire by giving target location and description. The Warrior Ethos states, “I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, and I will never leave a fallen comrade.” This Ethos, lived by every Soldier, embodies the squad mentality and spirit, bonds teams, and enhances a squad's overall success as a cohesive unit.
