Will Volker, a representative of the Castle of Porciano restoration project explains the castle layout to Soldiers of the 2500th Digital Liaison Detachment during a unit staff ride, Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023.
The staff ride, led by unit commander, U.S. Army Reserve Col. Dave Kasten, focused on the building and maintaining of relationships between the U.S. Army and Italy by studying shared history of World War II. During World War II, the Castle of Porciano, located in Casentino, Italy, and the neighboring villages were sites of war crimes at the hands of the Nazis. The 2500th explored the site, reviewed first-hand accounts through local interviews, and discussed the importance of building shared trust in communities, teams, and units.
