A member of the Gary Sinise Foundation hugs Retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Ian Prescott and his family on September 20, 2023, during a ceremony in Crestview, Florida. Members of the community of Crestview welcome Ian Prescott and his family to their new home.
Prescott, a former Green Beret with the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), was severely injured during a combat mission in Afghanistan, where he was rendered paralyzed after shattering his L1 and L2 vertebras and damaging his spinal cord. He also had his left pancreas, diaphragm, and intestines removed.
The Gary Sinise Foundation built a custom-designed smart home with wheelchair-accessible areas, enabling Prescott more freedom of movement, improving his quality of life, and increasing his independence.
We salute Sgt. 1st Class Ian Prescott for his service, resilience, and unwavering spirit. And we extend our deepest gratitude to the Gary Sinise Foundation for their tireless efforts in changing lives and supporting our veterans.
