A 35th Civil Engineer Squadron pavements and construction equipment operator and a Japanese contractor use a concrete vibrator to move compact wet cement and remove excess water while constructing a mobile aircraft arresting system (MAAS) and mobile runway edge sheave (MRES) on taxiway bravo at Misawa Air Base, Japan, July 24, 2023. The MRES and MAAS are two separate systems, one being a rotary friction-type energy absorber and the other providing a low-profile runway edge sheave, allowing the MAAS to be setback from the runway.
