Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (SENAN), Servicio Nacional de Fronteras (SENAFRONT), Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (SINAPROC), and Bomberos de Panamá carry their equipment across a runway following their extraction off a mountain during a search and recovery operation of a crashed Servicio Nacional Aeronaval (SENAN) helicopter Sept. 15, 2023, at Base Aérea de Santiago, Panama. A quick reaction force of 26 U.S. Army Soldiers and U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, Army Forces Battalion, 612th Air Base Squadron and Joint Task Force-Bravo joint staff with specialties in aviation, avionics, fueling, clinical medicine, personnel recovery, public affairs, flight medicine, weather and aviation operations mobilized within an hour of tasking notification to assist Panamanian forces in the search and recovery of a crashed SENAN AW-139, call sign AN-141. Throughout the two-week operation, U.S. military personnel from Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, worked with SENAN, SENAFRONT, Bomberos de Panamá, and SINAPROC to secure the remote crash site, recover the crew’s remains and extract the flight data recording device, or “black box.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech.
