JTF-Bravo Soldiers, Airmen respond to crashed Panamanian aeronaval helicopter

Two U.S. Army HH-60 Black Hawks assigned to the 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment sit on mountaintops to wait for a break in cloud coverage during an infiltration mission of Panamanian search and rescue, recovery, and mountaineering personnel September 22, 2023, in the Oláon District, Panama. A quick reaction force of 26 U.S. Army Soldiers and U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 1-228 AVN, Army Forces Battalion, 612th Air Base Squadron and Joint Task Force-Bravo joint staff with specialties in aviation, avionics, fueling, clinical medicine, personnel recovery, public affairs, flight medicine, weather and aviation operations mobilized within an hour of tasking notification to assist Panamanian forces in the search and recovery of a crashed SENAN AW-139, call sign AN-141. Throughout the two-week operation, U.S. military personnel from Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, worked with SENAN, SENAFRONT, Bomberos de Panamá and Sistema Nacional de Protección Civil (SINAPROC) to secure the remote crash site, recover the crew’s remains and extract the flight data recording device, or “black box.” (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech.
