U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. James Cruz-Hoover, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) recovery non-commissioned officer augmentee, holds a hose to ensure water is removed from previously excavated areas during a recovery mission in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Oct. 3, 2023. DPAA personnel and Lao citizens work together on investigations and excavations throughout the country between 30 - 45 days per mission to locate missing personnel. Since 1985, the United States and Lao governments have worked closely together to find and recover unaccounted-for American service members and civilians.
