Then, Staff Sgt. Roque Palmerinvega, stands to be promoted to the next rank of gunnery sergeant during a ceremony at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station Phoenix Headquarters in Phoenix, Jan. 2, 2013. Palmerinvega, a native of Myton, Utah, and a light armored vehicle crewman by trade, has been a recruiter in the Phoenix region since April, 2010. "It's a big deal and a requires a much broader sense of leadership," Maj. Steven M. Ford, commanding officer of R.S. Phoenix, said of Palmerinvega's promotion. "It's a quintessential rank within the military, you're now the 'old salty gunny,' and that's why you're expected to know everything."
