Illinois State Military Museum Holds Great War Encampment

Illinois State Military Museum volunteer John Werner of Chatham, Illinois, explains how the World War I uniform he is wearing found a new use in World War II when the U.S. used it as the uniform for enemy prisoners of war. The museum held its annual Great War Encampment on Nov. 4. The event tells the military history of World War I through displays and re-enactments. The museum, on the Illinois National Guard headquarters of Camp Lincoln in Springfield, tells the history of the Illinois National Guard from its colonial roots to modern units.
