Illinois State Military Museum volunteer Bjorn Ganger of Tonica, Illinois, portrays a World War I German Infantry Soldier. He is explaining how the Germans were more advanced in gas warfare using a gas mask with charcoal filters as opposed to just cloth in the Allied gas masks. The museum held its annual Great War Encampment on Nov. 4. The event tells the military history of World War I through displays and re-enactments. The museum, on the Illinois National Guard headquarters of Camp Lincoln in Springfield, tells the history of the Illinois National Guard from its colonial roots to modern units.
