U.S. Navy SB1 Justin Shackelford, a course supervisor, explains the Unmanned Aerial Systems Operations and Planning course to a Colombian marine corps delegation and U.S. Marines with Marine Forces South (MARFORSOUTH) during their visit at the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School at the John C. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi, Nov. 15, 2023. UASOP is a four-week course of instruction designed to provide Foreign Security Force personnel with the specialized training necessary to plan and conduct operations employing Unmanned Aerial System platforms. UAS operators use their knowledge of flight operations, mission planning, airspace management, and emergency procedures to execute security actions such as target acquisition/development, battle damage assessment, convoy support, and force protection during tactical operations. NAVSCIATTS is a security cooperation schoolhouse operating under U.S. Special Operations Command in support of foreign security assistance and geographic combatant commanders’ theater security cooperation priorities.
