During the Special Forces Readiness Evaluation held this past weekend at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center by 3rd Battalion, 20th Special Forces Group, Dec. 8-9, 2023, candidates 7 and 31 (for the duration of the SFRE, they do not go by their names, but the number assigned to them on day one,) work together to build the carrying apparatus for the downed-pilot exercise using knots and lashing techniques they only just learned the day before. This exercise is the culmination of the previous 4 to 5 hours of ruck marching and team-building tasks and all candidates are closely observed by 3-20th Soldiers to gauge their potential. The SFRE is open to civilians and military servicemembers of all branches and is just the first step they will take on their path towards joining the special operations community. (Photo by Sgt.
