240116-N-VM650-1682 AT SEA (Jan. 16, 2024) (From back to front) The Nimitz class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class destroyer ROKS Wang Geon (DDH-978) from the Republic of Korea Navy, and the Kongo-class guided missile destroyer JS Kongo (DDG-173) from the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force sail together during a trilateral exercise, Jan. 16. The exercise allowed maritime forces from Japan, Republic of Korea, and U.S. to train together to enhance coordination on maritime domain awareness and other shared security interests. Vinson, flagship of Carrier Strike Group ONE is deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
