Belynda Kinman, USACE SWG, Operations Division deputy chief, teaches during the latest Dredging Fundamentals Prospect Course at the Jadwin Building in Galveston, Texas, Jan. 22-26, 2024. The USACE Institute for Water Resources offers the Dredging Fundamentals Prospect Course to USACE employees. Through lectures, group discussions, examinations, and a field trip, this course teaches the student fundamental dredging theory and accepted dredging practices in addition to basic information on how Corps dredging projects are authorized, funded, engineered, managed, and maintained. A brief overview of dredge estimating, dredging safety, hydrographic surveys, and dredging contract administration is also provided. A field trip to see dredging equipment and/or dredging-related activities or navigation features is included to help the student understand the material taught in the classroom. This course is a prerequisite for the Dredge Cost Estimating course.
