U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Todd R. Wasmund, commanding general of U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF), salutes a formation of Mauritania Armed Forces soldiers, during a visit to Nouakchott, Mauritania, Jan. 24, 2024. Wasmund met with Mauritanian Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. El Mokhtar Bolle Chaabane, to discuss current defense cooperation and opportunities for additional partnerships between the U.S. Army and the Mauritania Armed Forces. SETAF-AF provides U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Army Europe and Africa a dedicated headquarters to synchronize U.S. Army activities in Africa and scalable crisis response options in Africa and Europe.
