240326-N-EV253-1007 SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 25, 2024) – Lt. Caleb Herrick, from Clearwater, Florida, and an instructor pilot assigned to the “Merlins” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3, poses for a photograph in front of the flight line at Naval Air Station North Island. Herrick assisted in a rescue effort on March 23 on Glamis Dunes in Imperial County, CA while he was embarked with his squadron on a detachment to El Centro. During the event, Herrick, along with Fleet Replacement Instructor pilot Lt. Brian Kennedy and US Naval Aircrewman 3rd Class Andrew Janvrin, had been conducting routine flight operations in the area when they observed an unconscious civilian next to an all-terrain vehicle, and provided on-scene medical care before assisting with hand-off to Reach Air Medical Services. HSC-3 is the Navy’s West Coast MH-60S FRS, responsible for training pilots and aircrewmen by providing the most capable warfighters to the Fleet.
