Vice Adm. Doug Perry, commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet, discusses the aircraft capabilities of the USS Bataan (LHD 5) as part of a guided tour for Peruvian representatives and business owners during Fleet Week New York, May 24, 2024. The discussion took place after the "Superfood Breakfast" event held in the Bataan’s mess decks, where avocados from Peru were used to prepare a meal for the crew. The Peruvian group included Ambassador Victor Garcia Toma, former Peruvian minister of justice and current permanent representative to the UN, Minister Counsellor Luis Felipe Llosa, Xavier Equihua, president, Peruvian Avocado Commission, and Giuseppe and Mario Lanzone, owners, Peruvian Brothers restaurant and food truck. Fleet Week New York 2024, taking place May 22-28, marks the 36th year of the city's celebration of the sea services. Approximately 2,300 Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guard personnel are participating.
