The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program used dredge material from the side channel adjacent to Piasa Island to create additional island habitat on the Upper Mississippi River. The island, and five others, are part of the Piasa and Eagles Nest Island habitat restoration project within the Corps of Engineers Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program, located approximately eight miles upriver from Alton, IL, between Upper Mississippi River miles 208 and 210.
