U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Kevin Christensen, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency life support investigator (LSI), brushes soil off a piece of aircraft wreckage during a recovery mission in Papua New Guinea, Aug. 23, 2024. LSIs are responsible for identifying any life support equipment (LSE) on site. LSE is any lifesaving equipment which might’ve been on the aircraft, and if found, helps guide the scientific recovery expert’s excavation strategy.
