117th Air Refueling Wing commander Col. Mike Adams presents Trent (Kota) Thorne a 117 ARW unit patch at the air park outside Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base, Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 29, 2024. After the organizations found out about a house fire where Kota and his family lost everything, the 117 ARW, American Legion Post 255, and Letterman of the USA teamed up and presented Kota a new laptop through LotUSA’s Laptops for Heroes program, as well as an autographed football from the University of Alabama, plus Kota had a personal tour of the air park with Adams.
