117th Air Refueling Wing commander Col. Mike Adams does his best to convince Trent (Kota) Thorne that the Air National Guard is better than the Army National Guard at the air park outside Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base, Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 29, 2024. After the organizations found out about a house fire where Kota and his family lost everything, the 117 ARW, American Legion Post 255, and Letterman of the USA teamed up and presented Kota a new laptop through LotUSA’s Laptops for Heroes program, as well as an autographed football from the University of Alabama, a 117 ARW unit patch and a personal tour of the air park with Adams.
