Justin Pyle, a Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) scientific recovery expert, right, uses a total station during a recovery mission in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Oct. 24, 2024. Total stations are used for surveying to measure both vertical and horizontal angles and the slope distance from the instrument to a particular point in order to establish organized grids on recovery sites.
