HALAWA, Hawaii (Oct. 31, 2024) Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill (NCTF-RH) gathers water samples from a monitoring well outside the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) in Halawa, Hawaii, Oct. 31, 2024. The Navy currently samples from more than 40 groundwater monitoring locations in the vicinity of Red Hill testing for multiple analytes including those that might be related to fuel. The Navy has completed drilling 22 new monitoring wells since the start of 2022 and is continuing to drill additional wells. Established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment, NCTF-RH is charged with the safe decommissioning of the facility and continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the RHBFSF.
