HALAWA, Hawaii (Oct. 31, 2024) An air quality monitoring station is operated at the Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage Facility (RHBFSF) in Halawa, Hawaii, Oct. 31, 2024. The Navy monitors air quality while the fuel tanks are being ventilated for cleaning even though there have not been any detections of volatile organic gases. Established by the Department of the Navy as a commitment to the community and the environment, Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill is charged with the safe decommissioning of the facility and continues to engage with the people of Hawaii, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as it safely and deliberately decommissions the RHBFSF.
