The Crater Crawl exercise held at the Nevada National Security Site, NDT members searched for tritium, a radioactive isotope of hydrogen, at one of the sites. Tritium debris was visually located and measured with RADIAC instrumentation that determined the amount of radioactivity in each piece. After this exercise, soldiers were better able to identify pieces of tritium left over after a nuclear explosion.
