U.S. Air Force Maj. Ed Fattmann, a pilot instructor at the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center, operates the Advanced Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base, in St. Joseph, Missouri, December 1, 2024. The AVTRAT is an automated virtual intelligent instructional training aid designed to introduce and refresh aircrew on their duties during an anti-aircraft threat engagement. Three people operate in each AVTRAT scenario: a pilot, loadmaster and enemy threat. Since 1983 the AATTC has provided advanced tactical training to airlift aircrews from the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve Command, Air Mobility Command, U.S. Marine Corps and 17 allied nations.
