The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, awards a challenge coin to Sgt. John Gundling, a canvassing recruiter with Recruiting Station Frederick, in Rockville, Md. Feb. 19, 2025. Gundling was selected among his peers to be recognized for his outstanding performance to duty as a canvassing recruiter for Recruiting Substation Rockville. As part of General Smith’s visit to the Recruiting Substation, he recognized the Marines for their successes and spoke about the future of the recruiter’s role in an evolving Marine Corps.
